WORKSHOP

Learn | During the two day Baby as Art Workshop students will learn everything from the basics of proper lighting to the complex processes of posing newborns.. Students will have the opportunity to observe Carrie and Brittany work through every step of artistic creation; from the initial drafting of new and original ideas to the final finishing touches in photoshop. Workshop attendees are invited to learn through the dynamic pair who have been defined by the children’s photography community as trend setters and “THE definitive modern baby photographers” -Stephanie beatty.

2010 Tuition | The cost of the two day Baby as Art workshop is $2,700. Tuition includes two days of instruction by Carrie Sandoval and Brittany Woodall, a beautifully designed coffee table workbook and an original hand knitted wrap designed by the Baby as Art team. Students are invited to stay in a beautiful beach-side home along the southern California Coast in San Diego during the two day workshop retreat where they will be treated with an experience that will be talked about for months to come. Acceptable forms of payment include check, credit card or paypal. Tuition is due upon reservation of the student’s spot and is non-refundable. There is a limited seating of 10 students per workshop session.

Itinerary | Class begins with a meet and greet at 9:30 with official instruction beginning at 10:00. During the first day of instruction students will have the opportunity to observe the Baby as Art team drafting new ideas, critiquing their own early work, posing and explaining their signature work. Day one curriculum will also cover a small intro into the distinct black and white conversion processing techniques that Carrie and Brittany are so well known for. Saturday’s instruction will end at 5:00, however the students are invited to take part in dinner and drinks with Carrie and Brittany. Class will resume on Sunday at 9:00 and will cover grouped posing instruction with newborn models, continued conversion work in photoshop, a question and answer session and finally a portfolio review with Carrie and Brittany. Class on Sunday ends at 6:00pm. For the highest schedule flexibility, students are encouraged to book their returning flights no earlier than 9pm.

Suggestions | The Baby as Art Workshop curriculum will cover advanced exposure techniques, which require a moderate understanding of manual exposure. It is recommended that the student have a 50mm prime lens as this is the lenses that will be used primarily during instruction. Students should also bring up to five 8×10 or 8×12 prints for the portfolio review segment.

Personal Workshops | New for 2010 are “Personal Workshops”. Experience the same itinerary as the two-day workshop in a single day; just you, Carrie, Brittany and a newborn baby or two. Tuition is $2700. These workshops are geared toward photographers who are visiting southern California from outside the US. Dates are flexible. Please inquire within.

Greetings, I am wowed by your art!! I would love to do a workshop with you! I will come all the way from Bermuda…. I am hoping that you will consider a workshop on a day other than a Saturday (please). I attend church on that day.
I am looking to define my style and I would love instruction in working with newborns…. I have one coming on Sunday !! I have been studying “the baby whisperer”……
You are truly talented… and I would be quite sad to know that I cannot participate in your full workshop… I am willing to make this investment to learn from you.

Thank you for your attention to my very special request….

    Kindest regards,

I would love to come to one of your workshops, but unfortunately I don’t have the funds right now. I was wondering if you have created any books for purchase that would give some of your insight and knowledge?

    Hello,

I am a children and family portrait artist in a small town outside of St. Louis Missouri. I would love to study under the both of you. Your work is extraordinary. It seems most photography workshops are held in Chicago when in the Midwest. Poor St. Louis lol. I would love to host you all for your Baby as Art Workshop. Is this something that would be possible? If so can you all please inform me of what I need to know and what your requirements are to be a host? And if hosting would save on tuition costs, as I will be honest $2500.00 is quite above my budget to afford. Although I would pay more if I could to be mentored by two amazing artist as you both are. Please let me know if hosting you all here in St. Louis is possible.

    Thank you for your time,

    Rona

    Hello!

I just wanted to say that had I heard that you were having a class, I would have saved my money and flew down to California to get taught by you guys.

I recently took the Kelley Ryden class and was greatly disappointed in the way it was taught. Being young and still learning though, I thought that she was the only one out there with a class that would teach me what I wanted to know. I am greatly disappointed in myself for not researching enough and for spending my money on a class that I felt was not well constructed, too crowded, too fast and not hands on enough.

Maybe one day though, when I become a bazillionaire (is that even a monetary amount?), I will for sure be paying (literally) a visit to meet you wonderful ladies.

Your motto, theme, expression for life and babies is amazing and I hope to one day be able to experience what you guys teach!

    Forever a fan/follower,

    Nicole

I too took the Kelly Ryden class and was disapointed. Unlike most other workshops I have attended there was no workbook provided (or anything for that matter!) and I felt Kelley spent more time trying to get good shots for her own blog than in letting her students who were paying and arm and a leg get any frames… It was an awful lot of money for a very over crowded class. I have since come across Carrie’s page and am hoping that she one day comes to Australia.
