As you can see… every single one of our little Canadian models were an absolute dream to photograph! We photographed 14 gorgeous little ones and I’d say our workshop was an absolute hit. Our attendees traveled all the way from the States, Australia, Scotland and Hong Kong! They were an absolutely great group of girls and both Carrie and I enjoyed every minute of the workshops! Huge thanks to Daniela Berkhout for hosting the Ontario workshops. I also want to thank Veronika Goisova, an amazingly talented newborn hat and accessory maker, for offering her home to Carrie and I for the last two days of our trip. What a treat… she even made us a hat an hour before our shoot- can you believe that? (pictured in the last 2 set ups!). This little one was full of the sweetest little smirks. We haven’t had many baby girls in the studio in over last couple of months, so getting a chance to photograph her was a very sweet treat. Don’t get me wrong- I love photographing lil boys, but girls are so much fun to accessorize!!! We got to try out a few of our new hats and headbands on her and she couldn’t look an cuter!!! Loved that last shot of her snuggled in her Grandfather’s arms. She seemed to like it quite a bit too. Such a sweet little smile!

Last month we had the best group of students and babies at our newborn photography workshop! We had a total of 13 babies in a span of four days and we had so much fun posing and styling all of our set ups. The weather even blessed us with an afternoon of warmth, so that we could venture outside with one of our farthest traveling models. I believe his little family traveled about four hours to get to our studio. I’m so glad we had him… he was a perfect little guy! We honestly couldn’t have asked for better babies. I think it’s pretty obvious, from the first series I posted, this little chica his happy to be here! She was such a sweetie pie! Such an absolute joy to photograph!

This beautiful little family grew by one little brother this summer! I was so happy to have gotten the opportunity to photograph big Sister and Brother before little Kean’s arrival, too. They both seemed as happy as can be to have a new little baby in the family!

Since the last post I did was for Mother’s day, I definitely had to follow up with a nice big tribute to all the Daddies out there keeping their sweet babies safe and sound! I love photographing new Dads and their babies as much as I love photographing the Mamas. It’s amazing to see the delicate and tiny babies embraced with the big and strong hands of their Daddies. For me, the contrast is truly captivating and it gives an amazing depth to the portraits. Not to mention that the image of a father and his new baby is always incredibly endearing. Lots of love and thanks to all the Dads out there including mine! Love you lots Dad!!!! I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without your never-ending love, support and advice! I couldn’t have possibly gotten a better Daddy. Happy Fathers Day!

Does the little person in the last picture look familiar? Haha… if not, that is me And MY Mommy who I love very dearly. Of course, I think I have the best Mom in the world. She is always there for me when I need her the most and I don’t know what I would do without her. Living across the country from her is very hard, but the distance between us really makes me appreciate her even more. Now when I visit home or when she visits me the time we spend together is even more precious to me! Thank you Mom for being the best Mom I could ever ask for… I surely don’t deserve everything you have given me. I love you Mom so much! And I hope all the Mommies out there know that they are appreciated! Happy Mother’s Day

I’m not going to lie… I don’t think Carrie or I have ever had such a busy year! For us though being busy means lots of beautiful babies in front of our cameras, which is really just fine by us. We wouldn’t have it any other way! This was the final workshop of this year and I think we went out with a bang. We had models from 4 days old to 6 weeks old! We had a wonderful time with all of our attendees! Are you interested in attending one of our future workshops? We are putting the finishing touches on the 2011 schedule. It should be complete by the end of this week and Ill give you one little preview… 2011 will be the first year Baby as Art’s workshops go abroad! To me, combining baby and earth together is one of the most pure and organic art-forms imaginable. The possibilities created within this combination is immensly inspiring to me. I went into this session ready to continue my journey photographing newborns amongst the pure beauty of nature. It was a 32 hour round trip drive to Montana and then an additional 9 hour round trip to Glacier National Park. It was worth every minute of the drive, though. Photographing a newborn baby in front of a scene like this was an opportunity of a lifetime for me. I am immensely grateful for Lylee’s family for being so willing to drive their one week new baby 9 hours for just a 2 hour session. They were so helpful in assisting me in any way I needed as well. Together, we created some amazing pictures. I must also thank the most beautiful model, little Lylee. She was as sleepy as can be and even shared a few of those fleeting smiles that make all of our hearts swell with love. Photographing newborns outdoors has opened a whole new world to me and I hope this year has kicked off only the first in many more destination sessions to come!
