Last month we had the best group of students and babies at our newborn photography workshop! We had a total of 13 babies in a span of four days and we had so much fun posing and styling all of our set ups. The weather even blessed us with an afternoon of warmth, so that we could venture outside with one of our farthest traveling models. I believe his little family traveled about four hours to get to our studio. I’m so glad we had him… he was a perfect little guy! We honestly couldn’t have asked for better babies. I believe we only have one or two spots left available in our 2 day workshop in Ontario, Canada. So, if you are interested in booking please contact us very soon! *Please note that all images taken outside were prepped and posed inside to minimize exposure to the baby. The shots were taken quickly and the baby was outside for only a couple of minutes. Proper precautions were taken to keep the baby warm at all times. It is advised that you not attempt the outdoor set-ups you see here as they were styled and photographed by a highly trained professional.

I had the most amazing opportunity to photograph a beautiful little boy born in Iowa earlier this month. Friend, past workshop attendee, and extremely talented photographer Shannon Dodd had me out to photograph their third little boy. We had an amazing time together. What a beautiful little family they have! Jefferson was an absolute dream baby and slept soundly as we did set up after set up with him. Thank you Shannon and family for being so great! I had an amazing little trip to Iowa

I think little Oliver may have won my heart! He was the sweetest baby and I can say, without a doubt, that his session is my very favorite to date. Lisa Hoang had me come out to Hawaii to photograph her newest little boy a few weeks ago. The little guy was so cooperative and sleepy… so sleepy that he slept through an entire day of shooting in the studio, he slept through a fairly windy evening outing to the beach, then he slept through a morning trip to a local grassy field, and then slept a little more- just enough for some family pictures back in the studio! I couldn’t have asked for a more willing family… they were up for anything! Thank you so much, Lisa for sharing your little guy with me! I had an amazing time in Hawaii! His password is oliver. I would like to also thank my wonderful boyfriend Steven for helping me during his shoot. He was such a great help- he held blankets, an olive branch, a scale, pulled binkies and even gently brushed sand off Oliver at the beach with his camera cleaning brush! The seats are filling quickly and this will be our last workshop of the year! Our last Gas-Lamp workshop was a huge hit!

Sorry guys for the delay in posting. This last month has been full of babies, workshops and traveling. As you can see… every single one of our newborn models were happy and as sleepy as can be! Our models ranged from ages 3 days old all the way up to nearly four weeks old. We also had a wonderful group of ladies who came from all over the world- From Canada, Australia, England, and, of course, all over the United States. Last month was our workshop’s one year anniversary. We have had such a wonderful time teaching others how to photograph newborns. Carrie and I are deeply honored that photographers have been willing to travel so far to learn from us. We have met so many wonderful ladies and photographed so many beautiful babies with them. Because the Gas-Lamp workshop was such a huge hit, we are now in the beginning stages of planning our next workshop, which will take place in the fall. There will be both weekend and weekday dates available. Make sure to join the mailing list to get the latest workshop information. Notice that awesome old truck? That truck is now a permanent yard decoration behind Carrie’s house. It was towed over four hours away by one of our newest team members: Chelle Haney! If you have been in contact with Baby as Art’s workshop department lately then you have had the pleasure of talking with Chelle. Carrie and I are so excited to have her on the team and we know she is going to take very good care of all our attendees. Speaking of Workshops… we still have a few more openings for our April workshop. There are two dates currently available: April 24th and 25th as well as April 27th and 28th. Being beautiful just runs in Luca’s family… you may remember when Carrie photographed his older brother Quincy… He was quite the stunner! His baby brother is no exception! Check out the Captured by Carrie blog for more of this little man. Anyways, I can’t tell you how excited I was when Carrie shared the news that Quincy was going to be a big brother. We just love seeing our families grow! As you can see from these few… Luca was quite the model himself. While I have you all, Carrie and I will be at WPPI in Vegas on Monday speaking at the Asuka Book booth from 1:00-1:30. We are very excited about our segment, which will cover the “behind the scenes” of many of our signature images, that appear in Asuka’s EXD trade show book sample. Funny story… Asuka recently told us that there were several photographers were trying to bid on the sample book at the tradeshows!! Haha! We do love our books, but the new EXD is beyond amazing! Please come by and check all their books out and say “HI” to us! We would love to meet you!

In honor of our love for Asuka, here’s a few favorite book layouts that went to print recently.

Two sweet boys, both full of sweet smiles! I know most newborn photographers can agree with me on this one- It’s hard to see the babies go after we have spent several hours getting to know each baby and family. Just like every one of our newborns are different- every session is different, but we love them all just the same! Of course, the ultimate high of a session is getting that adorable picture of the baby that makes Mama and Daddy tear up with joy, but Carrie and I also love the “down time” of our sessions just as well! While the baby is feeding, we love getting to know the parents, hearing the birth stories, and every once in a while Carrie (who is an amazing Mother of four beautiful Children!) is able to give new Mommies and Daddies tid-bits of advice. And then there are the moments while we are waiting for our little model to drift to sleep- Carrie and I just love getting the opportunity to hold and gently rock the baby to dreamland… definitely a highlight of our job! Many times, during those short bits of down time, we get the chance to marvel in those tiny details… the fuzzy ears, little hands, plump and puckering lips. Those periods during a session, where we aren’t posing away, we get the opportunity to capture those distinct elements of a newborn, which many times become some of our favorite images of a session. So, as I was saying, at the end of each session we have always fallen in love with each family and baby… It’s hard to see them leave! We would be as happy as ever if they were okay with staying forever, or perhaps at least a week .

I would like to introduce you to Nathan and Harrison. Nathan’s big Sister was photographed by Carrie about two years ago as a newborn, so it was very cool comparing the two. Nathan had some definite sibling resemblance, a boyish version of his big Sis! Harrison came all the way from LA (over a two hour drive!) and was one of our most over-due newborns to date! Two weeks over-due!!! You couldn’t tell though, he was as sleepy as can be! I just loved his long arms, legs and feet! He made the perfect model for the Baby-in-Daddy’s-arms-pose!

I’m so excited to not only announce the winner from our first Baby as Art contest, but to also share this video with you all! We photographed this little guy on Wednesday and we took an extra few minutes to video a short segment of the session. I hope you all enjoy!!! (And let me just make a side note- my hands are really not that large… thanks to the fish-eye lens, I have gargantuan hands!! And, Carrie just informed me that she thinks I look mad in the video, lol! Please don’t confuse my concentrating face with a mad face. I’m in deep thought there, folks! Oh, the pressure of being on video. Carrie will just have to be the star of the next one ) If you didn’t win that lovely hunk of gauze… don’t despair!
