Australia was absolutely beautiful and I totally envy all the photographers who live along this gorgeous coast line! Our little models and new mommies were also quite stunning as well. Combined they made for some amazing set ups! Thanks again to all that participated in making the outdoor shoots possible! In other news… I released the 2012 workshop schedule- TODAY! And these aren’t even all of them! There was no way I could have posted every one of them, so I had to try and select my favorites. And I also have another post coming on Monday full of the outdoor pictures. Okay, Australia was BEAUTIFUL and the little Aussie babies were even more gorgeous. We photographed so many babies during our stay- over 20! And, we had an amazing time meeting all the wonderful Australian newborn and baby photographers. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer bunch of people. They were great! I definitely have to go back… While I was there for nearly three weeks it didn’t seem long enough. The time just flew right by. Thank you to everyone who helped make our Australia workshops such a big hit! The models, the awesome attendees and those others who graciously offered a helping hand when we need it. Kristen Cook was beyond amazing and I don’t think we could ever properly pay her back. We all became such great friends over our trip, so it made leaving all the more difficult. So look out Monday for the outdoor images post AND……. I will also be announcing the 2012 workshop dates as well!

I had an amazing time in Albany with the wonderful Jessica Washburn‘s fifth child- a little girl named Eva. Because it’s always a challenge when it comes to scheduling flights in advance for a newborn session, Eva was a little older (17 days, I think) than when I usually photograph newborns. We didn’t let her “older” age hold us back. A ton of patience and love helped bring our ideas to a reality! It also helped that Jessica had a studio light, so I could literally shot ALL DAY (ever photographed a newborn at 11 something at night? I have now!)! Haha! There were so many great shots I had to sift through… and I’m still not finished! Getting Mommy + Baby shots was really important for Jessica, because she is always behind the camera. It was easy taking pictures of Jessica and Eva, because Jessica is just plain beautiful… as is her love for her littlest girl. I hope you guys enjoy sweet Eva as much as I did. Thanks so much for being such a wonderful host Jessica! :) I had a blast!

I think Carrie and I both agree that having the opportunity to photograph photographer’s newborns is truly an honor. We had the best time working with Drew B. Photography and family. Since Mama was a photographer we made it a priority to get pictures of Mommy + Baby together, since she is usually the one behind the camera instead of front of it. Kennedy couldn’t be happier than to cuddle up to Mama, too. I got so many smiling shots of her in her Mama’s arms! This week I’m also traveling to NY to photograph another photographer, Jessica Washburn, baby. I can’t wait!

This beautiful little family grew by one little brother this summer! I was so happy to have gotten the opportunity to photograph big Sister and Brother before little Kean’s arrival, too. They both seemed as happy as can be to have a new little baby in the family!

We originally had just the three boys, but we decided to have one our favorite newborn girls back for a few outdoor pictures at the end (I’m including pictures from both her session and her workshop modeling in this post). She was a week older, definitely bigger and had a new set of beautiful earrings, but she was just as sleepy as she had been for us during her first session. Actually, all of our little models were as sleepy as could be and we got so many great set-ups done! Our attendees always love the late afternoon outdoor segment. We venture out just as the light becomes golden outside. We are lucky here in San Diego, because the weather is fairly steady year-round and there’s only a couple of months where venturing outside is just too cold for the little ones! However, even in during a warm summer evening we always make sure the babies are nice and warm. Placing the baby in a basket, bucket, or box where only their face is exposed Is really the best way to keep the little love warm and comfortable. Hats are a great way to keep the baby’s head warm and they are always an adorable accessory. One technique we use to make sure the baby is always warm is to do the nose test: if you touch the baby’s nose and it’s cool to the touch, then the baby is likely getting cold. Even on the warmest days we limit our outdoor time to just a few minutes to minimize exposure to the outdoor elements. The babies always seem to enjoy some fresh air, though! And, it always makes for great pictures! Thank you to all of our wonderful models and attendees. You all made our June newborn photography workshop a GREAT success! Since the last post I did was for Mother’s day, I definitely had to follow up with a nice big tribute to all the Daddies out there keeping their sweet babies safe and sound! I love photographing new Dads and their babies as much as I love photographing the Mamas. It’s amazing to see the delicate and tiny babies embraced with the big and strong hands of their Daddies. For me, the contrast is truly captivating and it gives an amazing depth to the portraits. Not to mention that the image of a father and his new baby is always incredibly endearing. Lots of love and thanks to all the Dads out there including mine! Love you lots Dad!!!! I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without your never-ending love, support and advice! I couldn’t have possibly gotten a better Daddy. Happy Fathers Day!

This job definitely comes with it’s perks! Playing with adorable new little ones is definitely one of my favorite things about what I do, but there’s something else that really makes my job amazing…. I get to see real love all the time. Not just the regular ole’ I love you, but the real stuff… they say that you don’t know what real love is until you have your own child. While I have never experienced love like that, from what I see on a almost daily basis-I believe this statement is true. And to take love a step further I must tell you about what I see when a new Mommy holds her tiny baby: It’s an intense love that is so touching. I love being able to record that moment in time for that little baby FOREVER. Many times our Mommies come into the studio exhausted and the last thing on her mind is having pictures taken of herself. We almost always talk her into getting into the pictures though. The newborn stage is so fleeting and one day that Mommy can look back at the picture of her and her new baby and remember what those first days, when she gave her whole heart to her baby, felt like. And when I look at these pictures I don’t see exhausted Mommies, I see the beauty of a love that will last forever.

Does the little person in the last picture look familiar? Haha… if not, that is me :) And MY Mommy who I love very dearly. Of course, I think I have the best Mom in the world. She is always there for me when I need her the most and I don’t know what I would do without her. Living across the country from her is very hard, but the distance between us really makes me appreciate her even more. Now when I visit home or when she visits me the time we spend together is even more precious to me! Thank you Mom for being the best Mom I could ever ask for… I surely don’t deserve everything you have given me. I love you Mom so much! And I hope all the Mommies out there know that they are appreciated! Happy Mother’s Day :)
