WPPI | ASUKA BOOK | LITTLE LUCA

Being beautiful just runs in Luca’s family… you may remember when Carrie photographed his older brother Quincy… He was quite the stunner! His baby brother is no exception! Check out the Captured by Carrie blog for more of this little man. Anyways, I can’t tell you how excited I was when Carrie shared the news that Quincy was going to be a big brother. We just love seeing our families grow! As you can see from these few… Luca was quite the model himself. While I have you all, Carrie and I will be at WPPI in Vegas on Monday speaking at the Asuka Book booth from 1:00-1:30. We are very excited about our segment, which will cover the “behind the scenes” of many of our signature images, that appear in Asuka’s EXD trade show book sample. Funny story… Asuka recently told us that there were several photographers were trying to bid on the sample book at the tradeshows!! Haha! We do love our books, but the new EXD is beyond amazing! Please come by and check all their books out and say “HI” to us! We would love to meet you!

In honor of our love for Asuka, here’s a few favorite book layouts that went to print recently.

Denver Dream | Newborn Baby Mini Workshop

Watch out… this post is full of links :) Carrie and I photographed this adorable little man a little less than a week ago in Denver! We had the wonderful opportunity to guest speak at the Living the Dream workshop. Ill admit it, the idea of photographing in front of 45+ people was a little intimidating at first, but the crowd of photographers that surrounded us couldn’t have been any cooler. They were all so excited and ready to be inspired! We had so much fun!! It was a quick two our session, but our little babe was just the picture perfect model! Ill be adding a few pull back shots from last Tuesday, so check the blog tomorrow! Our travels this year are only beginning. Carrie and I will be on the road again soon to Tennessee to photograph the Mclellan Baby. We will be leaving straight from there to WPPI where Carrie and I will be speaking at a booth at the trade-show on Monday, March 8th. More details on that gig coming soon! And wait… that’s not it! In May we will be heading back to Denver to photograph the Hasselbach newborn twins! On to other exciting news!!! I would like to announce the winners of our latest give-thanks-giveaway! Congratulations to Katherine Macfarlane and Gabrielle Garland who both won the hour long Skype convo with Carrie and I. Our next giveaway is going to be quite different so stay tuned for more details on that! Have a wonderful week friends!

Recognize those beautifully curly locks? Carrie and I photographed Shreyas at two months old… you can see those pictures on Carrie’s blog. We couldn’t believe how much he had grown in just a few short months! He is truly a beautiful baby and was so fun to photograph! The hair diptych turned out exactly how I imagined it would- I couldn’t be happier with it! Carrie and I are off to Denver today to photograph a couple of babies in front of a crowd! We are very excited! If you haven’t checked out our latest give-thanks-giveaway, make sure to scroll down for details! The give-away ends this Friday!

Newborn Photography Workshop | Give Thanks Part 4

Hello Baby as Art friends! Sorry for the delay in posting… Carrie and I were a little busy this past week. Well, as you can tell… we had some of the most beautiful little models at our fifth Baby as Art workshop! All four babies were as sleepy as could be . If being sleepy wasn’t enough, they were each so kind to treat us with a few of those those ever-elusive happy dream smiles. (Funny story… the picture with Mama holding sweet Bristol- I asked Mommy to give me a small smile… just as I said- “Can I get a little smile?” Bristol cracks the biggest grin!! What an amazing moment! For the record… I tried the same trick again a little later and it didn’t work, but- hey! I was still so gracious with that happy face she shared with us earlier). We couldn’t have asked for better weather either. It was so warm on the second day, that we were able to venture outside with one of our little peanuts- That’s San Diego for you! If you are interested in attending a future workshop please send an email, with the title “mailing list”, to the workshop@babyasart.com email…. you will automatically be added to our contact list!

Now, onto our next giveaway… :) Carrie and I just love meeting new photographers and making new friends. The new friendships, which blossom during our workshops, are truly the driving force behind why we put them on. If it was physically possible, we would have every single one of you in our studio! This week we would love love to get the chance to meet two of you via Skype. Two give-away participants will be randomly selected to take part in an hour long skype convo with Carrie and I!! During this time you can ask us… and we will answer!!!* To participate, simply leave a reply in the comment box below. There are no commenting limits on this Give-Thanks-Giveaway, so good luck and Carrie and I very much look forward to meeting you!!! Contest ends at 10pm PST on Friday, February 19th.

*If you do not have access to Skype, Carrie and I are more than willing to hold a phone conversation instead. The discussion will be limited to one hour. All topics, except subjects pertaining to photoshop, are welcomed. Good luck!

XOXO

Two sweet boys, both full of sweet smiles! I know most newborn photographers can agree with me on this one- It’s hard to see the babies go after we have spent several hours getting to know each baby and family. Just like every one of our newborns are different- every session is different, but we love them all just the same! Of course, the ultimate high of a session is getting that adorable picture of the baby that makes Mama and Daddy tear up with joy, but Carrie and I also love the “down time” of our sessions just as well! While the baby is feeding, we love getting to know the parents, hearing the birth stories, and every once in a while Carrie (who is an amazing Mother of four beautiful Children!) is able to give new Mommies and Daddies tid-bits of advice. And then there are the moments while we are waiting for our little model to drift to sleep- Carrie and I just love getting the opportunity to hold and gently rock the baby to dreamland… definitely a highlight of our job! Many times, during those short bits of down time, we get the chance to marvel in those tiny details… the fuzzy ears, little hands, plump and puckering lips. Those periods during a session, where we aren’t posing away, we get the opportunity to capture those distinct elements of a newborn, which many times become some of our favorite images of a session. So, as I was saying, at the end of each session we have always fallen in love with each family and baby… It’s hard to see them leave! We would be as happy as ever if they were okay with staying forever, or perhaps at least a week ;) ;) .

I would like to introduce you to Nathan and Harrison. Nathan’s big Sister was photographed by Carrie about two years ago as a newborn, so it was very cool comparing the two. Nathan had some definite sibling resemblance, a boyish version of his big Sis! Harrison came all the way from LA (over a two hour drive!) and was one of our most over-due newborns to date! Two weeks over-due!!! You couldn’t tell though, he was as sleepy as can be! I just loved his long arms, legs and feet! He made the perfect model for the Baby-in-Daddy’s-arms-pose!

One more item on my agenda (sorry for making you all wait so long today!!) I would love to share our winner from our last contest!!!! Carolina Wahnish Rivera was the lucky winner of the beautiful hand knit wrap by Jennifer Howard! Please email me at contact@babyasart.com for information on how to get your knit wrap! Congratulations and huge thanks to everyone who participated! Next contest begins next Monday, so look out!!!! :) Have a wonderful week friends!!

XOXO
