A Summer of Beautiful Babies | Baby as Art Newborn Photography Workshops

We have had such a wonderful summer photographing some of the cutest models in Southern California during a few of our personal newborn workshops. We had a great group of girls at each workshop, too. I always love workshops, because it’s a whole day of photographing adorable little babies. Carrie and I are having one final workshop this year: September 8th and 9th and then again on the 11th and 12th. We have three spots remaining, so if you are interested in attending please contact our workshop gal Chelle at workshop@babyasart.com for more information! I’m now off to NY to photograph a week old baby then I’m headed for Seattle to photograph a very special baby… the very talented dog photographer Erin Vey’s new baby Maggie. I can’t wait!

Montana Beauty.

Nothing else could have made for a better maternity session… Beautiful terrain and a gorgeous Mama to be! I don’t think I could have found a better backdrop for these images. I really can’t wait to go back up and photograph the newborn in the next month! I’m hopeful that it will still be warm enough outside to do some outdoor newborn photography against Montana’s epic scenery.

Hawaii, Baby!

I think little Oliver may have won my heart! He was the sweetest baby and I can say, without a doubt, that his session is my very favorite to date. Lisa Hoang had me come out to Hawaii to photograph her newest little boy a few weeks ago. The little guy was so cooperative and sleepy… so sleepy that he slept through an entire day of shooting in the studio, he slept through a fairly windy evening outing to the beach, then he slept through a morning trip to a local grassy field, and then slept a little more- just enough for some family pictures back in the studio! I couldn’t have asked for a more willing family… they were up for anything! Thank you so much, Lisa for sharing your little guy with me! I had an amazing time in Hawaii! The images here on the blog are my favorites, but if you would like to see his full gallery you can log into his proofing gallery on the baby as art website under the proofing section. His password is oliver. I would like to also thank my wonderful boyfriend Steven for helping me during his shoot. He was such a great help- he held blankets, an olive branch, a scale, pulled binkies and even gently brushed sand off Oliver at the beach with his camera cleaning brush! In other news… We have announced a workshop for September 8th + 9th and the 11th + 12th. Email our workshop gal Chelle at workshop@babyasart.com to reserve your spot. The seats are filling quickly and this will be our last workshop of the year! Our last Gas-Lamp workshop was a huge hit!

Sweet baby skin.

A lot of our workshop attendees are surprised at how little we soften our baby’s skin in post processing. I always want to preserve the natural beauty of newborn skin as best I can. It’s important to me to achieve sharpness and clarity in camera to naturally enhance  the glow of brand new skin. I want the viewer of my pictures to feel as if they can reach into my photographs and feel the soft fuzzy head or the sweet little cheeks. This little guy had the sweetest newborn skin and it’s my hope that these images show that off. Meet Bryant, a very happy little guy I photographed right before heading out to Hawaii.

gentle summer light.

The beautiful light that pours into through our windows into the studio during the summer months is always so gentle and soft. The soft light always highlights the peachy newborn skin tones. It’s always a magical combination. This sweet little girl was so beautiful and delicate. Such a little girl! Her Mommy brought along a quilt she had made for her right before she was born. I’m so glad we were able to incorporate the quilt into the session. Also, the purple knit was made by the wonderfully talented Jennifer Howard… Thanks Jennifer! More pictures coming soon… I went to Hawaii last week to photograph one of Hawaii’s most beautiful baby boys! I can’t wait to share what I got!
